PotionStore – (Almost) Instant eCommerce

URL: http://github.com/potionfactory/potionstore

Code Quality: Production-ready

Description: Andy Kim’s PotionStore is an Open Source version of the software that drives his own online store at http://potionfactory.com.  With the exception of applying your own custom CSS (styles)/images, installing an SSL certificate, and, of course, setting up your license generation and payment processing it’s a complete online storefront that’s ready to go to work for you out of the box.   All you need to have ready is a) a host/internet connection, b) an SSL certificate to help secure credit-card info and  c) either or both of a PayPal(Express/Pro) or Google Checkout account to actually process payments and you can literally have your store on line in less than 2 hours.

The Potion Store supports

  • An admin interface with a few sales charts
  • Coupon generation/acceptance
  • Lost license recovery
  • License Generation (you supply the key generator script)
  • Purchase confirmations
  • Google Analytics tracking of PayPal and credit-card orders

Best of all, all of this is Open Source and written in a very accessible framework (Ruby on Rails) so it can be easily added-to or modified if you want to extend its capabilities.
